There is no change in the February updates to the WBC heavyweight rankings, but things are all set for a shake-up.

We have two huge fights on the agenda for the next few weeks, both of which could cause significant movement in the top 15.

First, Alexander Povetkin vs Dillian Whyte 2 takes place in Gibraltar on March 27. This eagerly-awaited rematch pits the current interim champion Povetkin against the #6 man Whyte.

The pair fought for the first time at Matchroom Fight Camp on August 22 last. Then Whyte was the interim king and on the verge of a title shot against Tyson Fury. He was stunned though when after having Povetkin down twice in the fourth, he was himself knocked out by a stunning uppercut in the fifth.

WBC heavyweight rankings: Povetkin vs Whyte 2

The rematch (live on Sky Sports Box Office in the UK and DAZN in the United States) has been delayed three times, due to Povetkin contracting COVID-19 and then by travel restrictions due to the pandemic. It was initially slated for November 21 last year, then January 30 and then March 6.

Whatever happens in that one, it is unlikely the winner will get a title shot any time soon. Fury will put the WBC strap on the line against big British rival Anthony Joshua in a huge unification match. That will hopefully take place in June, with an immediate rematch likely to follow.

Elsewhere in the rankings there is no change, with few of the top-15 fighters emerging from the latest COVID-19 hiatus as yet.

Deontay Wilder remains at #1 in the rankings despite not being out since that defeat by Fury last February. Joe Joyce retains his spot in the top five on the back of that sensational defeat of Daniel Dubois in London.

Parker vs Fa another cracker

Further down the list there could be changes soon with #7 Joseph Parker (27-2) facing the unbeaten Junior Fa in a huge domestic dust-up in New Zealand on November 27 (live on DAZN outside New Zealand). That is another bout delayed from late last year, this time due to a Fa injury.

BoxingScene.com has been advised that the World Boxing Council has ordered heavyweights Luis Ortiz and Dillian Whyte to take part in a WBC final eliminator.

The winner would become the mandatory challenger to WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (40-0, 39 KOs).

Dillian Whyte Weight

Wilder is scheduled to return in the coming, potentially in a voluntary defense against Dominic Breazeale - if a deal is not reached for unification with IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO champion Anthony Joshua.

Whyte (23-1, 17 KOs) was in action last month, when he pulled off a sensational one-punch knockout of former WBA champion Lucas Browne in the seventh round of their HBO televised bout from the O2 Arena in London.

He is scheduled to see action in July, against an opponent to be determined.

Ortiz (28-1, 24 KOs) suffered his first career defeat last month, in a very exciting fight with Wilder at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

He was down earlier in the fight, but came back to get Wilder in serious trouble at the end of the seventh round - and many felt Wilder was on the verge of being stopped. But Wilder came back to score two knockdowns of his own for a stoppage victory in the tenth round.

There is a purse bid set for May 25th in Mexico City - and if the contest heads to a purse bid the split will be 50-50.

Both fighters have had their issues with PED infractions in the past.

Whyte was suspended for two years after using a post-workout energy drink that he purchased from a nutrition shop, and the drink happened to contain a banned substance.

Ortiz was suspended for nine months after testing positive for a banned steroid in the aftermath of his first round knockout of Lateef Kayode in 2014. He was also placed on a temporary suspension late last year after failing a random drug test - but was ultimately cleared when the substances in question were attributed to his prescribed medication for high blood pressure.
